Who Killed the Electric Car? is a 2006 documentary film that explores the creation, limited commercialization, and subsequent destruction of the battery electric vehicle in the United States, specifically the General Motors EV1 of the 1990s. The film explores the roles of automobile manufacturers, the oil industry, the US government, the Californian government, batteries, hydrogen vehicles, and consumers in limiting the development and adoption of this technology. It was released on DVD to the home video market on November 14, 2006 by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Robo Rockets – Field trip to North American International Auto Show, Detroit – Jan. 16th 2010

Team Robo Rockets took a field trip to North American International Auto Show at Cobo Hall, Detroit on Jan. 16th, 2010 to find out about latest technology in automotive industry. They were exploring ford’s mykey solution and how FORD is planning to improve Teen Drivers’ Safety. The team spend hours talking to various car manufacturers and their supplier to find more information on driver safety and the direction auto industry is heading. We learnt many things about various technologies and learnt about robot’s use in auto industry. We saw demonstration of various solutions and tried out ford’s simulator to safe driving in different road conditions. After discussing with many engineers and presenters we have concluded that no auto manufacturer has solution like we do have. Having said that, we acknowledge and commend ford’s initiative to improve teen driver safety. And also the other manufacturers for their own initiatives to improve driver safety in general. We had lot of fun trying out many things and seeing breath taking cars, from large ones to tiny ones, most expensive ones to economical one, gas guzzlers to fuel efficient cars, traditional gas cars to hybrid and electric cars. We recommend everyone to visit auto shows to get a glimpse of technology that will come out in next few years.

Two of Detroit’s Big Three Sit Out the LA Auto Show

The LA Auto Show in November is a huge event in which the industry gets to unveil their new models, technologies, and exciting concept cars. But things are so bad for the American Auto industry right now that two of of Detroit’s big three car companies are basically sitting out for this year’s show, a previously unprecedented event. While foreign car manufactures Toyota and BMW are unveiling new, environmentally friendly vehicles, both GM and Chrysler decided to not send any executives or hold any press conferences during the industry showcase. Ford is the only US automaker with a major presence at the show, where they’re rolling out the brand new, redesigned Mustang, which they’re boasting has a “V-8 with even more horsepower and an even throatier Mustang exhaust sound.” While Japanese and German car companies are working hard to create more fuel efficient vehicles as concerns about gas prices and the environment continue to plague consumers, Ford is boasting about a faster and louder Mustang, while GM and Chrysler have so little to offer in terms of innovation they didn’t bother to show up at the LA Autoshow… no wonder the executives from Detroit’s Big 3 are in Washington begging for a 25 billion dollar government bailout loan.
